Careers at Firefly

Cambridge, MA - USA. Firefly BioWorks, Inc. is an early stage company developing a universally compatible molecular diagnostic platform based on Optical Liquid Stamping. Our technology was born in the laboratory of Prof. Patrick Doyle at MIT, by combining photolithography with microfluidics. This innovative microfabrication method allows rapid production of thousands of individually barcoded hydrogel particles that can be functionalized to detect a virtually unlimited number of targets, such as small molecules, nucleic acids and proteins. Its versatility allows for applications in biomedical research, drug discovery and clinical diagnostics among many others.

We are currently expanding our team and are looking for internship and full-time candidates interested in a fast-paced environment, where they would be an integral part of a product development team.

The nature of a startup environment is such that your contribution will have a very large impact on the future of our firm. We will assign to you significantly higher responsibilities than a typical corporate employer. The work will involve designing and executing experiments aimed at the creation of novel molecular diagnostic assays. We are also developing algorithms for high-speed detection of structured signals and novel strategies for automation of production processes.

Due to the interdisciplinary nature of our technology, we greatly value experience in a wide variety of fields. The ideal candidate would be familiar with standard molecular biology techniques (gel electrophoresis, PCR, DNA micro-arrays, suspension- and surface-based assays, protein arrays, antibody staining, etc.), as well as with microfluidics, optics, fluorescence-based detection, electronics and computer science. Our programming languages of choice are Lisp, Scala, R and Python.

We greatly value that very rare combination of passion, determination, humility, and sense of humor. We are excited by people that love excellence for its own sake and will not settle for mediocrity. If you feel physical pain when reading an improperly structured protocol, cannot stop thinking of what the ideal negative and positive controls for your experiment should be, and find yourself wondering how to sequence proteins as fast as DNA, please send us as an email!

Please send your resume to careers at fireflybio dot com, along with a cover letter highlighting what makes you passionate.

We look forward to hearing from you!
